New Jewelry Chest

I guess I should call it and old chest with a new purpose.  A few years ago I bought this chest of drawers for my craft room.  I loved all the little drawers and thought I could store lots of craft items in it.  It has served me well for the past few years but now I am trying to scale back all the crafty stuff I have so I thought I would re-purpose the drawers for something else.  That is when I got the idea to turn it into a jewelry chest for my “costume” jewelry.  I am starting to get quite a collection but didn’t have a great way to store it all.  Now I do!

I measured the drawers and cut black felt to line the drawers with.  Then I used Elmer’s Spray Adhesive to attach it to the drawers.  Now I have a new jewelry chest that I can fill up!  That may take me awhile though.

Mini Kitchen Makeover {Part 1}

I know I haven’t revealed Makeover #3 yet but it goes along with the Mini Kitchen Makeover so you’ll just have to wait and see.  Here is my kitchen before but I have to say this first.  I loved the yellow!  It just did not match the tile on my backsplash very well (which you cannot see because I did not get it in the picture).  You will see that in Part 2.

And here is my clean slate to work with.  I love this color too and it matches the other half of my kitchen beautifully!

I have big plans for this wall which is why I have shared a few frame makeovers and also this post HERE.  It will probably take a few days to complete but I am working on it.

And on a completely different note I wanted to say Happy Birthday to my oldest today!  I can’t believe she is 9 years old.  Life goes by too fast sometimes!

Makeover {Reveal #2}

So this makeover wasn’t a grand one but I still like how it turned out.  Plus I put one of my most favorite pictures of all time in the frame which makes me love it even more!

Before:

After:

There you have it.  All it took was a can of spray paint and a little bit of glaze and you have a new frame!

Stay tuned!  Tomorrow Saturday I will have Makeover {Reveal #3} ready.

My Next Project

I have been looking into these shelves for a long time but never wanted to take the plunge because they were so expensive.  Now I am going to go for it.  Check it out!  Click on the photo to go the the project post.

Since I already have the screws, wood putty and pretty much everything except the wood this project will not cost a lot.  I collect Milk Glass and I think that this will be a great way to display all of it.  I need to paint my kitchen first (I have the paint but just haven’t been able to bring myself to do it).  Maybe I can get it done before we have my daughter’s birthday party  in 11 days.

Oh and I haven’t forgotten about reveal #2.  I’m working on it!

Makeover {Reveal #1}

Do you remember this from yesterday?

I started by removing the glass piece and the chalkboard.  I spray painted it aqua and then brushed on my Ralph Lauren Smoke glaze.  Then I took an old sock and wiped off some of the glaze.  I wasn’t too excited about the green and gold painted French on the glass so I took fingernail polish remover and a cotton ball and went to work.  Then I gave the old chalkboard a fresh coat of chalkboard paint.  Take a look!

I am going to use my Cricut and my Sure Cuts A Lot software to cut out my title for my menu board.  I had to fake writing my menu because the paint has to dry for 24 hours before you can write on it.  I am going to hang it in the kitchen and then I won’t have to answer the question, “Momma, what are we having for dinner?”

Stay tuned for Reveal #2 tomorrow!

Coming Soon! {Makeover}

It has been awhile since I have visited my favorite thrift store but I had a chance to go this past weekend so I jumped on it.  I found a few things worthy of a makeover.  Two of the three are painted already but not quite ready to be revealed.

Now I just want to know……do a lot of people give away photo frames with pictures of their baby still in them??  The photo of the baby above was taken at a studio in Stillwater, OK.  If anyone happens to recognize the baby in the photo then contact me and maybe I can get it back to them ;0).

Tomorrow I will reveal the finished product.  I just have to run to the store to pick up a couple of things.

Media Base

Quick blurb…here is my media base.  It is a cell phone pic so it is kind of bad but I will post a better one when I get back home.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I hope you are wearing green today!  Anyways, I am finished building my Media Base.  It turned out better than I had expected.  The doors were tough for me but in the end they turned out really well.  Now I just have to prime and paint it and put it in my living room.  I can’t wait to get started on the other pieces!

Instead of using 1×2′s for the doors and the top of the unit I used decorative trim.  I did not want an overhang piece on the top of the unit.  I still need to make the shelves for the center of the unit but I am going to paint everything first and then put them in.  I will let you know when it is all finished.

One Whole Month

It has officially been one month since my last blog post.  I just needed a little hiatus.  My house was needing some extra TLC and we were playing catch up a little bit on our homeschooling.  And to top it all off I was feeling just plain uninspired.  I am back in the groove though and have a few things in the works.

To start it off I will show you what I built tonight.  We bought the MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) at Home Depot and had them cut it to the dimensions that we needed.  I am following the plans for the Media Base from Knock Off Wood.  I still have to trim it out and build the doors but I got a good start on it.

This thing is HUGE!  It is 62″ wide and I plan on building the side units too.  When it is all trimmed out and the doors have been put on I will paint it black and then distress it a little.  If I complete one piece at a time it won’t be so overwhelming.

Next up is this 12″ x 12″ frame that I picked up at the thrift store.  This is what it looked like before:

All I did was spray paint it with Antique White paint and then put some Ralph Lauren glaze (Smoke) on and wiped it off a bit to make it look like this:

Not bad for $2.  I just put some paper in the frame to take a picture of it.  I don’t know if I want to put a sheet of metal in it to make it a magnet board or do a family scrapbook page and hang it on the wall.  When I figure it out I will let you know!

I will post my progress on my Media Base as I go.  Until then…..later!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day.  We spent the day with family celebrating my husband’s birthday (it is tomorrow) and then we took our girls out to dinner.  They both got a little box of chocolates from their daddy so they were happy.  Plus last Saturday they got an early present.  It took me about 5 hours to put it together along with the help of my 8yr old.

They had about an hour to jump and play before it was dark.  And then the next day as soon as they woke up they wanted to jump some more but it didn’t happen.

I love the snow and all but I am about ready for it to be over!  Thankfully it only snowed a couple of inches and then had melted by the end of the day so it wasn’t too bad.  And today we woke up to snow once again but it only lasted for a couple of hours and then the sun came out.  Global warming?????  Seriously!
